Summer Learning

Our Summer Camp study programme is designed to help children and young people to gain mastery of French or English. Students from Beginners to Advanced develop their grammar and vocabulary, while practising reading, writing, conversation and listening skills.

Lessons take place on Monday to Friday mornings in our purpose-built teaching block, ‘Academia’, which is designed for 21st century learning.

Teachers use a practical, multi-sensory and diverse approach. Language lessons are taught through games, music, arts and crafts, story-telling, role play, dressing up, cooking and quizzes. Themes include The World Around Us, Going Shopping, Poetry & Stories, Exercise and Hobbies.

Students are assessed on arrival and placed in levels ranging from complete beginners to advanced, as well as being differentiated by age. Our small class sizes mean that children benefit from close attention, motivating them to make a greater effort and aspire to learn. We particularly emphasise spoken language skills so they can easily and confidently communicate with their friends in a foreign language.

We operate a strict mobile phone policy: Summer Camp is designed to keep students active, occupied and healthy. For this reason, all devices such as mobiles phones, iPads and tablets must be checked in on arrival. Depending on the age of the student, video calls home are offered at least twice a week. More details are in our FAQs.

Students aged 13-16 have slightly more freedom regarding access to their devices, but this is at our discretion. Additionally, no devices are allowed during private or group classes, mealtimes, activities (unless by prior agreement with camp staff) or after bedtime and during the night.

We find that students are much more alert and connected once they learn to live without their devices. Instead of focussing on tiny screens, they are focussed - quite literally - on the bigger picture of our amazing landscape. Summer Camp is truly a digital detox.
