Summer Camp Week 3

Fun Friday!

The Giraffe class has been studying the story of 'The Enormous Crocodile' by Roald Dahl. We watched the short film and answered questions whilst we watched. We also completed a word search of some of the key vocabulary in the story. We ended the morning making our very own crocodile crafts!

Ce matin, le groupe des marmottes a travaillé sur le goût. Les enfants ont goûté divers aliments les yeux bandés et ils ont essayé de reconnaître le salé, le sucré, l’acide et l’amer. Certaines saveurs ont été  plus appréciées que d’autres!

A big welcome to all our new students!

The new children took part in a range of activities and assessments yesterday to place them in the correct class for their level.

This morning we had a fire practice to make sure all the children know the procedure.

The aged 7-9 advanced English class (Lions) have enjoyed the last 2 weeks completing Literacy work based around the book Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl.

They have listened to and read sections of the book followed by completing speaking and listening drama and role play activities to fully understand the story line and characters.

They have written character descriptions using thesauruses to find powerful adjectives, punctuated direct speech and dialogues and written newspaper reports, diary entries and letters in the role of one of the characters. They enjoyed watching the film and comparing it to the book.

Super Saturday!

On Saturday we enjoyed reading the story, `The Man on the Moon`. The children then retold and rewrote the story in their own words, after sequencing the events. They then had to design their very own alien.

We then followed a recipe to make biscuits and decorated them so that they looked like their own alien designs. Yum!

Have Your Say!

All of the children were asked to fill out a questionnaire with their teacher this morning. We are always trying to improve at La Garenne so we asked the children to tell us what they enjoy and what we can do to make it even better :)

Fabulous Friday

The children in the `Tigers` group enjoyed making cupcakes. They worked really well as a team and were very kind to each other. After following the instructions they looked at imperative verbs for writing recipes and they wrote their own cupcake recipe.

Let`s find out what some of the children in our English section have been doing this morning.

Here we are playing a memory  matching game to help us learn space vocabulary!

Two teams pitted against each other to see who knows the most homophones!

Here we are matching homophones to make a pair (or should that be pear)?

The Monkeys class started the week by getting to know each other, whilst practising their speaking skills. In groups, they played a ‘Getting to know you’ board game and had to answer different questions about themselves along the way!

On Wednesday, the Monkeys were talking and writing about themselves using adjectives to describe their appearance and that of family members. They also attempted to draw the other side of a photo of their own face, in order to help them with their descriptions!

We have also been looking at word classes and the Monkeys have been sorting words, to identify the nouns, verbs and adjectives. This was a paired activity, which meant the children had to work together and communicate in English.

Today we have been working on the topic of houses and where we live. The Monkeys have labelled the rooms in a typical house and written about objects in each room, using sentences that begin with ‘there is or there are’. They also answered questions in a listening exercise on the topic of houses.

We also read the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and the children worked in small groups to retell the story using a story map and then present it orally to the class.

Bear Cubs

Our youngest Summer Camp students have had a busy morning improving their English spoken language and writing skills. The children have been working on their fine motor skills, drawing and labelling pictures, learning new vocabulary and using the resources and games to extend their conversational skills.

Their class teacher Kirsty is from England, she has been teaching for over 15 years, and is the Reception teacher here at La Garenne during the school academic year. Kirsty plays the clarinet and piano and enjoys singing, walking and the outdoors.
