Two students from the ‘Elephants’ decided to interview the Head of Academics for this year’s summer camp. They chose 10 questions they wanted to ask and then used their written language skills to type up the answers correctly, with a little assistance from their class teacher. Well done!

Here is a transcript of the interview that took place this morning!

1.  What do you enjoy about Summer Camp?

This particular summer camp I’m really enjoying being able to organise everything, and have a change from teaching. It is nice to have different things to do. It is also a challenge to organise classes, making sure everyone is in the right place and helping the teachers.

2. Why did you choose to work in “La Garenne”?

Originally, I decided I needed a complete change from where I was working in London. I was very busy and it was very noisy and busy. I wanted to change it and I liked the look of the mountains and really wanted to learn how to ski.

3. How long have you worked in “La Garenne”?

I have been here for five years. In September, it will be my sixth year.

4. Why did you move to Switzerland?

It’s completely different with London and I really want to learn how to ski and have a new adventure.

5. What kind of music do you like? And why?

I like lots of different types of music. I really like film music and love music from musicals. As I am a classically trained musician, I also like to play and listen to classical orchestral music but also any chart pop music on the radio.

6. What is the most difficult challenge for you during the school year?

The most difficult challenge for me during the school year is when new children join the class, because sometimes it can be difficult when they arrive and cannot speak English or French.

7. What is the most difficult challenge for you during Summer Camp?

On the first day, the biggest challenge is making sure that everybody is in the right class and that nobody has been left out or in the wrong language group!

8. If you could go back in the time, where would you go?

When I was in school and we learnt about the Tudors and I still love reading books about that era, although I do not think it was a very happy time to live in! Maybe the 1960s or 1970s with all the old fashion designs and music.

9. What is the worst job you’ve done?

Probably page turning in the piano festival. It was very stressful as I had to follow the music and make sure I turned the pages in time for the pianist to continue!

10. Do you enjoy spending time in the mountains? If so, what do you enjoy doing?

Yes, I love spending time in the mountains. I do a lot of hiking and running. I haven’t done a lot of cycling in the mountains, because my bike is too big for me! In the winter I love to ski and snow-shoe walk.

While some students were away at Europa Park, those left here spent the day exploring new ways of learning! We’ve had: cooking, drama, treasure hunts, farm visits, art and plenty more, including a try at meditation!
